why we do it

Dragon6 team members share a love for storytelling, problem solving, and helping our clients figuratively and literally look good. We all come from in-house teams that routinely struggled with resourcing challenges and talent-voids which often typify professional services providers and that can easily drag down the firm’s Marketing efforts. We are a team that thrives on creativity and that loves being given opportunities to project our clients’ brands in ways that measurably impact their business successes.

A bit of context about me, Deborah Murphy, the founder of Dragon6. Early in my adulting years, I managed to stumble into an opportunity to interview for a Marketing Coordinator position with Kansas City’s second largest general contractor at the time.  What I knew about construction was admittedly unimpressive. What I knew about writing and story-telling, though—well, evidently that was something the hiring folks found compelling enough to explore, so they offered me the job.

Some 20 years later, I can say I still love working with professional services providers (think architects, engineers, developers, general contractors, accountants and lawyers) to tell their stories and capture greater market share.  In these 20+ years of helping firms build their businesses, I’ve watched Marketing virtually explode in the professional services industry. More information and data are at our disposal to help us make strategic Marketing decisions (particularly if made in concert with accounting, IT, and human resources). Brand identity and brand integrity are terms we now earnestly pay attention to. We have the ability to share messaging in more targeted ways. In fact, opportunities to engage and influence clients and potential clients in the Marketing space are endless.

Ironically, those opportunities become part of the challenge for most professional services firms and their teams. Resources are routinely stretched thin by the daily demands of responding to proposals, preparing for client interviews, and maintaining the countless assets in support of those efforts. The pipeline of deadline-driven projects naturally consumes resources that are needed to spearhead and drive the firm’s strategic Marketing initiatives, and those initiatives often remain shelved or go unfinished.

Dragon6 was formed to help professional services providers break through the resourcing barriers that interfere with momentum and progress and prevent strategic Marketing and Business Development initiatives from successfully launching or crossing the finish line.
